Grandma lived with cancer 2 years in in home hospice. Granddad built that house himself with hos own hands and died before I was born. Of cancer. Both my dad and his sister work in health care, and they were the closest family members, though my aunt lived all the way in Jersey, but my uncle worked for Blue Cross so they were well off and she could make the trip often.
