Humm... Amazon Alabama wearhouse closing soon?
Since when are employees garuanteed a free and fair union election? I'm no defender of amazon, but a company should be able to take a stance against unionization if they choose.
Amazon did take a stance against unionization. Recall how it was leaked a while back that they were promoting "diversity" among their workforce because it would prevent their employees from forming a union.
And they can. There are guidelines each side mus...should follow. If conditions are so bad as to force a vote, what does that say about their company?
Hard to draw any conclusions based on the limited reporting in this article and I don't care enough about amazon to research their sins.
My comment was that I was surprised employees are allowed any sort of protections when they are organizing to strong arm a company into their demands. I won't argue that amazon work conditions are likely awful though.
Not a lot of people realize how many people died unionizing in ages past.
Protecting the workers helps prevent that. Likewise it helps prevent the workers from burning the fucker to the ground.
Too bad Unions are just controlled opposition.
Public unions sure. 100% agree. Private unions not so much. The average union construction shitbag worker has 1000 hours of labor throughout 5 years. A good union construction worker has 1800 hours of labor a year throughout 5 years.
I'm strictly generalizing here, but lets say an average wage of $30 an hour. That's a huge difference in salary. A "union" construction contractor has the ability to hire and fire (layoff, can't fire without jumping through more hoops). Reduction in force is the accepted term, even if its a bullshit excuse.
Now in the public sector, teachers, LEO, mail carriers, etc, you can't RIF them. You can only pigeon hole them. They still make a wage, they are still accumulating pension, 401k, retirement hours. Private unions are way different.
Its hard to kick someone out of a private union of course, but not at all hard to prevent them from working from a private contractor. Typically the only downside to working in a private union are the random drug tests which mainly catch the occasional marijuana user.
10 if not unionized then vote to unionize 20 goto 10
That seems kinda basic.
