We took our eyes off of the steering wheel. We assumed that our people were all like us and we did not take the time to PROPERLY RUN OUR SOCIETIES.

This happens in all civilizations. It is the eternal struggle of how much energy to put into maintaining the system vs how much time you want to spend enjoying your limited life.

The answer to maintaining a high level of standards comes from top athletes that understand the following:

It's all about being in the zone.

And being in the zone has two parts:

1) PAIN - The initial extremely painful work necessary to get your skills up to the level they need to be.

2) MAINTENANCE - Once you reach peak performance maintenace is easy. BUT! You must maintain daily, you cannot skip a single day. The moment you skip a single day it will take you 4 days to catch up.
