On the one hand, many experimental medical procedures started out being tried on animals first. On the other, this one seems to be aimed saving things that never should have been allowed to survive in the first place, and requires support just to support what will doubtless be a useless, parasitic existence. Hope remains that perhaps they learned something from the procedure that will have value in saving actual humans.
