The microchip technology was developed by Stockholm-based startup Epicenter. The tiny chip stores a Covid-19 vaccine passport the likes of which are increasingly being mandated across the globe. It can be read by a device using a near-field communication protocol – the same tech used by credit cards and other digital payment systems.

My former boss got a MIFARE-chip implanted in the palm of his hand in 2019..

The idea was to have 'smart and always readily at hand' access through access control chip readers.

It had to be hardcoded before insertion and a short time after the said procedure, it became evident that the thing wasn't coded correctly and he couldn't interact with readers communicating within a certain bandwidth, like the very common HID readers..

He took a lot of stick for that..
