Most would run, the ones hanging around for a pension are iffy if they’re being targeted but your “captain America’s” would be vastly outnumbered and gone pretty quickly. My last 3 years in the military I worked with federal law enforcement, made connections and got out and landed a good job with one of the agencies. I hated it, I don’t like enforcing stupid shit and the chain of command was more politicized then the military. I left after a couple of years and started my own company. I still stay in contact with a bunch of the normal people I worked with. I’m in a private group for current and former law enforcement the local police are the clowns of the world, nothing but tax collectors for the state for the most part. There’s some pretty based current and former local law enforcement though who call out stupidity and point out the flaws with the system. Most hate your “captain America’s”. There was a discussion on how most officer can go months to years with no complaints, confrontations, resisting arrests or even macing or tasing people. But others are constantly provoking people, are complete dicks and are always getting people resisting arrest, involved in altercations, needing back up etc. And then they said you know exactly who I’m talking about in your departments but you won’t do anything about it and most agreed.
