Let's be clear about what Shkreli did and why he is in prison: He revealed to the world the corruption of Big Pharma. As Stalin said, find me the man and I'll find you the crime. Shkrelli's conviction is that crime.

What was he charged with? The article doesn't mention it at all other than:

...the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and seven states had accused Shkreli, the founder of Vyera Pharmaceuticals, of using illegal tactics to keep Daraprim rivals out of the market.

What he did was shitty but not illegal from my understanding?

Edit: Found a little more in some other articles:

They alleged that Vyera hiked the price of Daraprim and illegally created "a web of anticompetitive restrictions" to prevent other companies from creating cheaper generic versions by, among other things, blocking their access to a key ingredient for the medication and data the companies would want in order to evaluate the drug's market potential.

It seems like they got him on technicalities and then imposed the maximum fines and sentence they could.

Having watched the court system in direct action over the last few years and watching a huge amount of legal commentary, you pretty much summarized how the law works.

He's a dickhead , but I think the charges are a reach

Wasn't this the guy that was intentionally trying to fuck over the pharmaceuticals industry by bringing attention to how all their bullshit works? It was years ago so the details are pretty hazy. If it is him, and IIRC, the medication is essentially useless; it works, but the shit it works for already has cheaper mainstays, i.e. there's little or no demand for it.

I think he did it to show how fucked up pharma is. Like that old saying goes you can call a jew a scoundrel, but when you call him a jew, watch as he recoils in horror
