For people who understand economics, the outcome is clear. Price controls mean hoarding and shortages. This is easy to see ahead of time. The entire point of prices trending higher when a good is in short supply is to discourage widespread hoarding.

They're stupid and think they can legislate away the effects of their failed policy decisions. They will only make it worse.
