The government knew about it before it hit the media. I think the information was even public when it first started really hitting China. It just wasn’t talked about that much in the news until early 2020.
I do recall an anon on the chans around Oct/Nov timeframe of 2019 claiming to work as a staffer for someone in congress. This person was talking about the virus at that point, and then lo and behold a couple of months later..
So yeah, if that staffer knew that early then who knows when the government actually “found out.”
Of course, we now know some people in government knew way before then when it was being cooked in the lab.
