You have to do something to stay awake. Some people make the error of picking something too passive on one hand or two engrossing on the other. IMHO watching a movie is too passive and writing a novel is too engrossing. Playing games is just childish and I'd be embarrassed to be seen doing it. It's just weird when you're over an ocean at night and you look over and there's this full grown man sitting there throwing colored squares around on his phone. Maybe it's like the dagger in the steering wheel for them. Like they want to look even more stupid if they forget to call Shanwick at 30W and the fear of that keeps them alert all night. If that's the case, good job I guess... keep playing. I'm supposed to speak up too. As a captain I used to wait for the inevitable fuckup to really make the point but I don't think I have the patience for that anymore. I'll probably be a real asshole once I move to the left seat again. Things that annoy you become intolerable when you're signing for things.
