Summary:
20 year old shooter Jonathan Douglas Sapirman entered the mall, spent an hour in the bathroom arming himself and putting on tactical gear. He emerged and fired 24 rounds of .556 at people in the food court.
The 22 year old Good Samaritan, identified as Elisjsha (Eli) Dean Dicken of Seymour, which is in Jackson County, not Bartholomew County as previously announced, wearing shorts and a T shirt, ran towards the sound of gunfire, entered the food court at the far end, and engaged the shooter from a distance using a concealed Glock handgun. He fired 10 rounds, and was able to get hits on the shooter before the shooter could fire back at him. As he approached the shooter after hitting him, he used his off hand and motioned for people hiding to get up and flee. The Good Samaritan has no formal training as a LEO or military. He also had no permit to carry a gun, but BECAUSE INDIANA HAD PASSED CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY 16 DAYS PREVIOUSLY, he was able to legally carry his weapon.
The chief said that the shooter had left his laptop in his apartment, where he had been served an eviction notice, inside the oven on "High" with a bottle of butane. The butane did not ignite, but laptop was damaged by oven heat. Shooter also flushed his cellphone in the mall bathroom beforehand. The FBI is in possession of the damaged laptop and cellphone and are attempting to extract data.
The ENTIRE SHOOTING EVENT, which took less than 2 minutes from first shot to dead shooter, was captured on high definition mall security camera, but will never be released because it's too graphic, per the chief.
No note was left, no motive is known, and family and friends all said there were no signs of violence.
'Good Samaritan’ hires attorney, asks for respect for his privacy
In a statement on a law firm website, Good Samaritan Elisjsha Dicken is asking for privacy as the ongoing investigation into the Greenwood Park Mall continues.
The statement:
“Today the heroic good Samaritan of the Greenwood mall shooting, Elisjsha Dicken, retained the Law Office of Guy Relford. In response to multiple media inquiries, we are releasing the following statement: I am proud to serve as Eli Dickens’ attorney and spokesperson. He is a true American hero who saved countless lives during a horrific event that could have been so much worse if not for Eli’s courage, preparedness and willingness to protect others. Because we want to respect the on-going criminal investigation by the Greenwood Police Department and take time to honor the three innocent lives lost, we won’t be making any substantive comments on Sunday’s events until after the authorities’ investigation is closed. In the interim, we ask that you respect the privacy of Eli and his family. Guy A. Relford The Law Office of Guy A. Relford
I’ll bet anything that the shopping mall had “no guns/weapons” signs posted at every entrance
It did. The mall definitely was a supposed "gun free zone". The shooter was a 4channer. https://heavy.com/news/jonathan-sapirman/
>will never be released because it's too graphic >it failed so we won't show it to anyone, reee! Lol, lmao
What it will show is that one brave, capable White kid with a Glock and no body armor is worth more than 400 up-armored cops hiding in a school hallway.
400 400lb cops
