He probably thought that shit was funny. The attack the soviets did on our culture was their crowning achievement. They had a closed society without free speech. We had an open one. That was the biggest and only clear advantage soviets had over us and they exploited it.

I remember the cold war... grew up in it.

I would not say this guy saved the human race... it's too early for such a statement.

But he did buy us some time... a second chance which it appears we may have squandered. A chance, whether we deserved it or not.

I never understood the real politics behind the cold war. I'm assuming it was groups of js billionaires who did not agree with each other.
