They are more economical. $5,000 of "gas" gets you 150,000 miles in something like a Chevy Bolt. 150,000 miles in a Honda Civic would cost you $17,000.
Gas and electric cars can be remotely tracked and killed these days, so there's no difference there.
Electric cars don't need tune ups, fuel pumps, water pumps, air filters, thermostats, spark plugs, coolant hoses, oil changes, and rarely need brakes because most breaking is done by the electric motor. That makes the maintenance costs less.
Electric cars are more flexible in SHTF scenarios. If you have access to stored gas you can use a generator to charge. If you have access to solar panels you can charge. If you have access to micro hydroelectric you can charge. If you have access to micro wind you can charge. Basically you can generate unlimited amounts of fuel right at home. If you have a gas car you ain't going anywhere when your fuel storage runs out.
I'll take the rate of fires in electric cars over the rate of fires in gas cars any day.
