Thanks
sometimes when the CDC is mentioned i like to throw out a funny of the time i had a small job at the CDC in Atlanta Ga and in our safety meeting they said one of their scientists died to super aids from a tested on monkey when it threw its shit through the cage into her face.
and in unrelated news when the CDC is done experimenting on their monkeys they get pulverized through a chemical dissolving agent, where there remains are then sent down a clear glass tube into a container to be disposed of. isnt that crazy? i didnt think you could weld glass either but theres a whole specialty for it.
edit: id like to add this was waay before COVID. later, on a different job for a different contractor, they said "hey, wanna do a lil job for the CDC?" and i got the heebie jeebies and said "NO! i know the walking dead is just a show ill never watch, but there is no way in hell i am going back over there. with my luck ill be the one that the virus attaches to and accidentally leaks out to the general public. "
this memory is way funnier now so i thought i would share
I found out the CDC was total bullshit around 2009. Here's my story:
I have worked around several hospital ERs, but quit around 2005. In 2009, my foot started swelling. It was unusual and there was not an injury or bite mark to speak of. Eventually, it got so big I couldn't fit in any flip flops or shoes and it hurt to stand up when all the blood would go down to my foot. I decided it was time to go to the ER. I showed up in the ER and there were five people waiting including myself. Two of the other people waiting were there for the exact same reason (foot swollen with no injury or noticeable bite).
Being the dork I am I sat next to one of them and asked if they had the same thing I did. I invited the other person over and we all talked. I volunteer where I lived, where I worked, what I've eaten in the last few days, etc. All three of us had nothing in common. In fact we lived, worked, and ate about as far away from each other as we could and still have chosen to go to the same ER. When I eventually talked to the doc, it was obvious he didn't really know what was going on and just gave me some antibiotics. I asked him wasn't three unrelated people showing up to the ER with the same rare problem on the same night something that should get reported up the chain? I've worked around the ER and have never once noticed someone come in with a swollen foot that wasn't related to a bite or injury.
They couldn't care less. I later found out it was likely a much delayed bad reaction to another antibiotic Cipro. I wish I had asked for the phone numbers of the other two people in the ER. I didn't learn how badly Cipro had affected me until years later. I wonder what's happened to those people. I've gotten a bunch of provable bad diagnoses since then. I'm pretty sure I got a "hot" batch of Cipro much like there are certain "hot" batches of the vax that are much more likely to kill its recipients. I wonder if the other two recovered or maybe they're already dead.
