I've been reading about this and she when downhill fast. Within a few days and no explanation of why or how. I'm assuming old age at 96 but the hands make me wonder if it was circulation and heart failure. She looked completely different a few weeks ago from pictures I've researched.

You can go from yo to no pretty quick when you’re that old.

Yeah, she was 96 after all. Just seemed very instant.

My grandmother did something similar at 99. Was relatively ok, then her circulatory system collapsed and that was it. Took a couple of weeks.

Of course it was covid.

Happened to my grandfather too. They seem fine then something goes wrong, and the problems pile up quickly as the body fails them. One day it feels like they're fine, the next they've got several serious issues that keep snowballing.

We're like any piece of equipment. Once it starts getting to the "just barely holding together," there's typically more than one thing wrong.
