Couldn't this kind of be accomplished but using the current letters (A-G) and a number based on which section on the piano the note belongs in?

So far left g would be G1

I guess that would be more programmatic than what you intended.

There is more to a piano though. Length of time on the note and how hard you hit matter.

Nah, that sounds like work.

If you were white and wanted to improve keyboards you'd be talking about the various better layouts that white people invented such as the many isomorphic layouts.

The reason they were not more popular in the past is due to the mechanical complexity of making one in the past but now those are non-issues due to modern manufacturing and electronics.
