I priced Nikon cameras and lenses on Amazon the other day. Ridiculously expensive. I don't know why anyone buys them. And isn't it strange that in these days of digital photography, the most expensive cameras look exactly like the 35mm Single Lens Reflex cameras made fifty years ago? Those old 35mm cameras got their size and shape for a reason. They had to hold 35mm wide film, and they had to have a mechanism to advance the film, or automatically wind it. None of these limitations exists for digital cameras. So why do they look exactly like old 35mm cameras?
Nikon, Canon, Sony, etc.. They are all about the same price points. I bought one because I wanted to take wildlife photos and you can't put a 500mm zoom on a phone camera.
The 35 mm body style works and is familiar would be my guess. Although certainly there are all kinds of new action cameras and products that don't use it.
