Are the directly pasted images displayed at a fixed width?
I added a bunch to my recent post (https://poal.co/s/Machining/761493) and they all seem to be scaled to a consistent fixed width.
I added them as a comment as I didn't see a way to add images to the text of an image/link post (I may just be retarded though).

They are displayed at a maximum width relative to the comment thread column width of your browser viewport.
If you download them back, you'll see them they are the same resolution and the exif data have been stripped off (for privacy purpose).
