yep, that's what i figured out. also draw order helps out a ton. the grey on the candy cane can be one big box with just points at the corners, while each row of red can also be just 4 points per stripe vs the hundered or so Inkscape generates when converting from an image. from what i've seen, 2 points can form a circle in theory if you could figure out the exact position the side arrows needed to be at.
