I painted this

https://pic8.co/sh/YthVZT.png

and then it inspired the below:

On the land atop the hills

There it stood peaceful and still.

No sound of turmoil, no harsh word

A tree was planted in the dirt.

Clouds, wind, crisp clean air

With leaves in summer, but winter bare.

Nests in spring for the birds

Color in fall to please the hikers.

The lonely tree watched over the land

Through storms and weather grand.

It watched the lake fill and dry

Through the years, by and by.

I smiled at it, its trunk I touched,

Its strength and age I felt so much.

Under its shade I rested and thought,

Of reasons to be, and reasons to not.

On that land atop the hill,

I found in nature a small thrill,

Not with sound of turmoil, nor harsh word,

Just a lonely tree planted in the dirt.

Reminds me of Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree a little bit. Beautiful :)
