I am "the work" and I don't force the jab on my workers. In fact I am fighting the state for them. It takes me 2 hours reading all the new covid regs about demanding the jab and then I take 3 hours to educate my guys how they should tell me to get fucked shoud I demand the jab. Then I get to kick out the State when they come to me to check if we are all vaccinated. There are many fights to fight on many fronts, I'm just not a trucker.

Yes the organized protest is working out great. It's a weekend getaway for many. I see grills and kids carrying flags, a few trucks being towed, very exiting for the kids. Bank accounts frozen and now labeled as insurrectionists. Something to talk about for years. The numbers were not there to succeed. The plan was good, but not enough showed up. Why don't you try it? Stop for a few days, but it will take ALL to do it, not the same few who already tried something and lost.
Thats why it seems fake to me. Even if they had their bills covered for the month, they'd likely lose contracts which could screw them long-term. Owner/operators can't afford that.
I'm kind of curious. What could happen to you if you stopped your trucks for a week? Fines? Lose customers? I'm for real asking.
Not OP, but in general:
Trucking is a fairly tight margin business. Let's say you have to drive for 25 days a month to break even. And, then the last 5 days are your profit.
So, 1 week isn't too painful. You will lose a bit of money that month and pay your self $0 for the full month. But, likely you will survive.
But, going on 2,3,4 weeks and you layoff your drivers (who will get jobs elsewhere and not return) and you will fall behind on your truck notes. Unless you have deep cash reserves (and let's face it ... most small businesses don't), very difficult to recover from that.
And ... a big part of trucking are the contracts. If Joe's ice cream company expects you to deliver between the factory and the Walmart distribution center once a week ... you will be in default on the contract. Joe goes to a different carrier and you are out of a contract. So ... your 1 week 'vacation' now cost you months of income and you've got to find a replacement contract for that truck. Rinse and repeat ... things get can ugly quick.
Well, I would save on fuel but my drivers get paid 30% of our weekly load (typically between $10,000-$13,000) so they would be pissed! We operate off the spot market (load boards) so no contracts lost. For me, one week is the difference between making a profit or not for that month. Between paying my dispatcher 5% and factoring company 3% Fuel is roughly 25% in addition to the driver's 30% it doesn't leave much. Quick math...5 trucks bring in $50,000 a week give or take Driver's pay= $15,000 Fuel = $ 12,500 Factoring/Dispatch = $4,000 Truck/trailer/Insurance= $8,500 (Rough) weekly expenses = $40,000

People go on holidays all the time, that is not an excuse for something of a small-time frame, till freedom improves... Insurance and licences is basically stealing... are you free or do you have to pay the government for the privilege to drive... No taxation without representation stop paying federal taxes and depending on who is in your local level basically if they don't work for you don't pay them...
The people will do this with or without the help of those whom are unwilling... e.g let's see how easy it is to transport goods with rail lines and roads destroyed... Then what without the infrastructure, the trucks and trains become moot... You see, we don't need you to bring this country to its knees to remove those who think they are our masters... the less who help the more extreme the solution and the longer it takes... e.g. Ottawa itself can be cut off fairly easily at least from the roads/rails...

What would happen if all those truckers were all laid off or fired tomorrow anyway? They would all go through the same pain with even less to show for it. When they look back to this time in history how are they going to feel knowing they could have stood with the people that supported them the most, but refused because they were afraid to lose their jobs.
People need to start preparing for better change, best to do it slowly and not all at once if you can't handle it. Your employer would have no problem dropping you on the same day's notice for being 'too early' to deliver a load. A job should be viewed as a mutual contract with both parties' interests and not a damn marriage.

I think your 50% is wrong. Look how many vax doses have been used. Maybe in some regions it is 50%. Here in California it is almost 80%. I am sure in other uber liberal areas it is the same. So if you average the USA, I say it is close to 70% maybe a little more. Sad but true. Remember all the big companies who have vax mandates. 20,000 employees and 2,000 don't vax. 40,000 and 4,000 don'r vax. Over and over the same story.
