Rachael Maddow (MSNBC) was sued by One America News for defamation for stating that they were "really literally paid Russian propaganda". Her successful defense was that her statement was a mere opinion and that no rational person would think that she was making a statement of fact. This defense has since been used by Facebook (Meta) in its defense of a defamation suit from John Stossel. There, they argued that their "fact checkers" were not providing facts, but merely providing opinions, despite being labelled as "fact check".
