I work in tech, i hate it. the idea of being in front of a computer, having to talk to indians and queers all day, having insane deadlines which no human could ever meet. all of it is just too much for me. i started my own consultancy business which is nice, but now my friend and i are thinking, why not create something more tangible? i've always wanted to do carpentry or mechanical work, something with my hands, something where sure, it'll be hard, but at least i'm not looking at the clock or my phone every 2 minutes, counting down the days until i can go do anything else. i even have the capital to do this, i have around 200,000 saved up, so i could feasibly leave my current situation and go do something else. the problem is in today's economy, it only takes one lock down, or shit mandate, and all my plans go crashing down.

i simply hate that the tangible jobs(agriculture, masonry work, trades, etc) are devalued as worthless and the most useless sectors are the highest paying (insurance, finance, virtualized systems). it drives me nuts, because humans were never designed to be in front of a computer for so long.

I don't know why you would leave an in-demand field that you know how to do for something lower paid?

Money buys you security. It depends on how old you are but I wouldn't leave unless you are over 40, and $200K is nice but it's kinda borderline? I left IT, but I had property and I'm OK with living on baked beans every day.

Fixing or making stuff isn't where you'd be secure, managing other people who are fixing/making stuff is better, or at least running something that's capitol intensive like your own construction equipment. Carpentry is a lot of expensive tooling to make stuff that's better/cheaper made by a machine factory. Mechanical is OK

Nobody likes indians and queers, but that's why they are paying you to talk to them, if you want your job to be taken by another indian or queer, then giving it up is how you do that.

I've noticed it's really fashionable for kids right now to be giving up a job to go do something less stressful instead, but I'll spell this out for you

Being fucking poor is THE MOST STRESSFUL THING YOU'LL EVER EXPERIENCE. Period.

If you have ever been poor then you wouldn't even be thinking this, because you'll already be shitting yourself at the thought of being in that hole again.

Not what you wanted to hear, but you need a way better Plan B than asking a bunch of internet people what to do when it'll not be them paying your bills
