I needed a nut splitter, it's uncommon but not really. The only place in the major metro area that has one is a single Lowes that happens to be close enough it's not a bad drive. I order online for pickup, get there and....

They still have giant plexiglass shields up over all the desks, and they're covered with fall decorations. I can't see or hear the person I'm talking to. Lots of diapers, so they must still be terrified. I manage to convince them I have an order, and they go what's the order number. I say it's for me and hand them my ID. Well, turns out they can't locate the order unless you give them a phone number, or have the order number. Their systems are so obsolete they can't search by name. I say I just put garbage in the phone field, I don't even know my own number. Mind = blown, and the drone locks up for a second. Who the hell gives out phone numbers these days? I dig through email and fortunately the server hasn't purged yet and it's there in the trash. I finally get my tool. This is after waiting behind a guy that was trying to do something, all I could hear was part numbers didn't match, and some old fuck that wanted to pay his credit card? bill with a paper check. Go fucking die, old man.

I want to buy a couple of other related items while I'm there, so I have them on the desk and I say "I want to purchase these as well." "Do you have a receipt for them?" Uh, no, I just told you I want to buy them, what part of that did you not understand? Drone lockup again, then oh you want to buy them. I make the purchase and leave as quickly as possible. It would have been quicker to just go in and get the parts and leave.

when the EMP nuke will hit, paper will still work

you want a plan B, do you ?

Paper checks rely on a clearinghouse to do their work. The manual backend is gone, so when the EMP hits, checks will be as worthless as credit cards.

no, false

and you know it is false

so, who are you ?

No, true. Check magink numbers are electronically read and the check visually scanned. Depending on the bank or type of check, someone may see it, but for the most part the only time someone looks at it is when the OCR can't determine if it's correct.

It's computer flipping bits for accounts. It's why you don't get the checks back. If the computer systems for this are gone, then you're not using checks because that massive backend with people doing work to create lists of transfers intrabank are long gone.
