After some thought, ive been looking at quotes for certified contractors to do the work. I was thinking about it, and i think that the man has other issues he needs to work on, specifically himself before i can put him in a position of being useful. I dont mind helping him even financially or if he needs help, but all the avenues in my hand point to a disastrous conclusion. The matter i needed him for was time sensitive, pending the sale of a house in a 4-6 week timeline, and i BARELY was able to get him to do a few things around the house after a month, because he was too busy. And I noticed he always has excuses and stuff. I had originally envisioned he could live on the job site, but that just isn't gonna happen, since i would end up with drug addict squatters on my property, especially given there would be no supervision from anyone around.

I decided to do some digging and the place he lives at the landlord knows his situation, and has been, to say the least very accommodating. However, she had to deal with worst stuff than I have. At first I didn't understand her or why she was always frustrated, but i can gander (i dont know druggies or their behaviors all too well myself) that being front line of the issue so often is bound to irritate someone over time. She is very strict against my friend, but i can understand why.

At this point i would prefer to pay out of a cost for a reputable company and use their services instead

As someone who has been running a contractor business, albeit a small one, for years, find someone else. It’s not even just about tools going missing, it’s that they’ll always have to go to a “doctors appointment“ or “pick up their son“ and leave you hanging at the times when it’s most important. Dealt with this with about five different people. They work really hard for maybe two days, then all of a sudden they need to start leaving halfway through the day and only giving me 20 minutes notice before they go, or they take two hour lunches and make up some excuse about having to unlock the apartment door for their girlfriend. It’s nothing but excuses. And what you describe sounds exactly the kind of people I’ve been dealing with. Now I will say that if you only need them for a couple days, use them and pay them and it’ll work out fine. But if you need them for anything longer than that it will devolve into a whirlwind of excuses very very quickly. Trust me.

This is especially the case if you are a nice guy and are willing to do things like give them a few extra bucks for gas, or are sympathetic to things going on in their life so you give them a lot of leeway with the times they show up and leave. These people, whether they do it intentionally or not, are “users” in every sense of the word

Today is a good example, he promised he would call me tomorrow so we could start working on stuff around the place im selling. The guy didn't call yesterday, and i called him THREE times this morning and no answer. He finally called a few minutes ago, but now i have actual stuff to do, so he missed his window to help. This happens constantly, and it is very aggravating because it delays all my plans and causes a huge amount of timing problems. A 1 day fix ends up taking weeks because it's left incomplete, pieces are everywhere, and my entire place now looks like a warzone
