For all it's shit, Windows handles laptop networking better than anything else out there.
I've never been able to get any of the other systems to reliably disconnect from SMB shares gracefully. System V would if you got the planets just right, but everything else just goes to shit if the wireless and the share get into a race with one another.

I should have said "disconnect gracefully during normal shutdown of the system, i.e. telling to to power off with the GUI's power dialog."
