I don't know how many books I've stopped reading part way through because of this crap. I get confused, and I'm not that stupid, can't tell whether something is happening to one person or if suddenly there is a group. It always takes me out of the story and I immediately return it. Kindle Unlimited is amazing for a reader like me but man, I wish there was an easy way to tell if an author is going to pull stuff like the pronouns that or throw a trans character in halfway through. They tend to hide the reviews that bring it up and I don't always read reviews since I don't want to spoil the story. I don't need trigger warnings. I need pronoun warnings.
