I always check the uptime of the computer before I ask if they restarted their computer. People are fucking liars.

He drove 2 hours to press a power button. Not bad 2 hrs pay on a callout then 2 hrs more pay for drive home plus the base fee for doing this. I'd say that's stupidity is giving him job security. This is why you find someone that has some common sense, honesty, and computer sense at all to be the contact at that company who you use when contacting them to check something.

Unless you own the computer company that is being called out then this is great news for everyone except the moron that said that the server was on already since they likely paid through the ass to have that callout made.

if you know anything about IT and MSPs, the customer will call your boss, or whoever is in charge of you and complain and comlpain and that bill will get comped.

If it is comped then the boss is a pushover or he says this is the last time I send a man out for something a teenager could have figured out and done properly. Also they could give a break on the charge like one time at 50% rate then make sure they know to have a non idiot check the server state. It's like not turning on the monitor and say the PC is broken level of stupidity so either way the person that drove there HAS to get paid for the drive and if it's there own vehicle get reimbursed for any gas they used. Hell a good tech would have no trouble finding a new job if the employer decided to screw them over. Better just sit at work doing nothing in a non monitored area till your gas is reimbursed in pay even if it's a half a day of fucking off since it's just evening out the money they owe you.

In theory. Yes. In the real world? This would never work.
