Legally (in the US) you cannot shoot some one and claim self defense just for the them making a threat to kill you. They have to actually attempt to make a potientally deadly action in order for you to respond with deadly force. Therefore if israel were subjected to US law, they would be found guilty of homicide/murder for their attack on iran. It would be a very bad look for the US to then get involved in defense of israel.
