Sort of. You’re probably not going to get away with it if you obviously initiated a conflict with the intent of resolving it violently.

We have 50 states that all have different laws on this. In my state things will go a lot easier for you if you are making an active attempt to retreat and withdraw from the situation when someone is injured.  (Except if you’re in my house. My state is one of the Castle Law  states that say that it is unreasonable to expect men to retreat from their own home. I once had a cop tell me, if you have to shoot someone on your porch who is trying to get inside your home make sure he falls across the threshold into your house.  Different requirements as to what is a justified shooting inside versus outside my house.)

An important factor here is that in the United States “where legislation stops, litigation begins. Or, “every bullet you fire will have a lawyer attached to it.” You’re going to need a couple hundred thousand dollars of cash to deal with the lawsuits so most Americans would lose their house or go into bankruptcy over it even if it was a justified shooting. And of course you have to make sure you kill them dead. The lawsuits will go easier if they can’t testify against you.

Edit; this is from memory and the information might be outdated as I have not found it necessary to carry a firearm in several years.

I don’t know what you mean. We have very reasonable laws. Some states allow you to stand up more for yourself than other states.
