Testosterone only negatively affects the hair on the top of the head, especially the spot where the noses wear their little hat. It positively affects facial and body hair, and it doesn't affect the receding hairline. I assume the difference is in how men react to the bald spot on the head: decades ago, they tried to comb their hair above the spot, and now they cut it so short that the spot doesn't stand out.
