Cool! I never worked in the fab but am familiar with masks, metal deposit, etch steps. This was before early design and layout software, computing junction currents, etc. Remember, the wafers were very small and die very large back then. Masks were usually made on optical quartz glass and needed to withstand repeated intense UV exposure.
