Strange, I remember that long time ago in Italy during left leaning government minister of health, say something similar. Mentally illness don't exist. He actually start to close mental institutions and release patient in the world. This don't end well.
It's important to distinguish amongst learned behavior, assholery, and illness.
If you were molested as a child and now claim to be bulbasaurasexual for attention, you learned that acting that way garners you attention. You dont have an illness.
If you scream and punch people who dont kowtow to your whims, you dont have a mental illness you're just choosing to act like an asshole.
If a blind, objective, quantifiable test can be administered to diagnosis a problem, then you have an illness. Like hypertension or tuberculosis.
Psychiatrist scammers love to call learned behavior and assholery "mental illness" so they can slap a medical billing code on it. If they just honestly called someone an attention whore or an asshole...there's no billing code and hence no way to bilk insurers or the government for giving some douche canoe psychotropic meds.
I know couple psychiatrists and psychologists, some of them are my 'beer brothers'. However we many times talk about mental issues. Better to say they talk I listen, read some book they give to me. Hugh..... I only know that I don't know. And they are just little better than me. Seriously during time psychiatry gather great knowledge, there are tons and tons of books. But in reality they walk in dark. Of course they will admit such stuff only after many drinks to someone which are close to them. More interesting are stories from couple guys which work in mental institutions. Because all this Dr. Prof. etc. mostly seat in offices. But there are people which actually do dirty work and deal with mentally ill people.
