I don't have tinnitus. Several specialists have told me this. But they don't know what I have.

Inside my head I hear a 14,500Hz frequency all of the time. Sometimes it's louder than at other times. I estimate that, at the loudest, it approaches 70dB.

How do I know it's at 14,500Hz? Well... I've used tone-generators to re-create the tone. And I'm pretty certain it's right around there.

Also, I saw one specialist who noticed that I have hearing loss between 14,000Hz and 15,000Hz. Oddly, when I pointed out that's the range covering the constant tone in my head she said that was just coincidental. She didn't have an explanation, however, for why I scored perfect hearing all the way through 20,000Hz.

(Funny story about that. After the test, I mentioned to the specialist that her equipment had a bad ground. She very haughtily asked how I knew that. I told her I could hear a secondary buzzing between 17,000Hz and 18,000Hz. Even more haughtily she told me that was impossible and that she'd spent $100,000 on the equipment and the installation. I said to her: "Whatever. Are you going to trust the installers, or the patient you just confirmed has 'bat-hearing' (her words) who randomly told you there's a short?" You'd think I'd insulted her family honor or something. The bitch was very rude. So I left. Two weeks pass, and I get a call. It's the specialist. She starts apologizing profusely. Told me she had the installers out to check the equipment and sure enough they confirmed the bad ground connection and spent some time fixing it. She couldn't apologize enough and asked me to come back in for more "testing". I politely declined since she wasn't any help to me the first time and I didn't want to reassure her of her equipment.)

Anyway, every doctor I've seen has described tinnitus as a warbling tone much lower than 14,500Hz and most have been astonished I can even hear that high a tone.

Oddly, it gets way way worse when I ride a motorcycle. Fun fact: most of the time I ride I wear ear plugs and after using them the tone is the worst.

Anyone out here experience anything like this?
