We didn't lose the technology. That is well documented. We did, however, lose the tweaks and on the fly engineering that made the technology concepts turn into real life and usable technology. All that writing in the margins, all those notes scribbled on the back documents and all that wisdom past orally from senior engineer to foreman...that is the magic we lost.
