It’s a .5 gallon plastic igloo thing that’s sold everywhere. Now that it’s hot outside, the ice and water melts too soon. I’ve switched to putting only ice but that still melted and stopped being cold too soon.

Is there something I can wrap it in that would be somewhat practical? What are your thoughts? Thanks!

I’ve got some classics in the garage and attic. I’m a sucker for buying them (coolers and such) when I go thrift store shopping.

Lol, I’ve got some in my attic as well. The ol’ metal clad Coleman are classics. The best performing cooler I own is an all white maritime Coleman for multi-day prospecting trips in the desert. Pre-chilled and kept in two padded moving blankets it has outperformed the much more expensive Yeti coolers by days. Go figure? Key is opening and closing as little as possible so placement of contents becomes paramount towards those ends. Dividers and trays are a big help in that which the maritime cooler provides for so there’s less time digging around for shit with the lid up.

Lol, years of struggling with keeping food cold out in the desert and now, here that I’m too old to get out like before they come out with decent 12v coolers. Grrrrr….

That’s pretty cool. My friend let us use a big yeti cooler for a couple weeks when a new fridge got delayed.

I can’t say I was so overly impressed by it. Things were melting like most any other cooler or so it seemed. And this was during winter in a garage with nights at freezing and days in the 50s.

But maybe I didn’t really give it a chance. Who knows.

Lol, that’s pretty bad I’d say considering the hype they put on them. On all of those roboformed coolers you’ll notice the front, back and around the top edge are nice and thick walled, but on the ends they are indented to a thinner wall to accommodate handles of one kind or another. Why? You’d think you’d want to have equal amounts of insulation all the way around. Seems to defeat the purpose. Then to top it off many have very thin lids, you know right where the sun hits them hard. Wtf? I did buy the smallest Walmart version of one, it was on sale for $19.99 for some odd reason. I’ve used it to put two bags of ice in for when the marine cooler ice begins to get pretty slim. It does alright since you never open until then and has bought me another couple days in the field.

One thing I don’t like about them is their weight. Lol, they weigh a ton with nothing in them! Then you open the lid and see this tiny hole of a space that’ll barely allow for ice after putting food and drink in em’. Yeah, no thanks. I think the main thing that’s worked for me is the moving blankets, shade and as limited opening and closing as possible. I’ve even set up canvas awnings over them.
