you could be "going back" to a previous save as many time as you wish but you will never know you did, so... it could be happening now and we would never know...

we are NOT the one that is playing the game
We won't have memory of it, but we should see the result of it. But for example, Stephen Hawking hosted a time traveler's party, but he sent the invite after the party happened. No one showed up. If someone could load an earlier save, we (if we're the NPCs of the reloaded save) would see someone showing up in Stephen Hawkings party.
it seems that you are thinking that each of us has "their own version" of the game....
Maybe, who knows, we still do not know what is light (we have a working model of it, but we do not know what it is)
We have no idea of "where does everything come from" ? Including God, obviously....
