I wonder if it was ever really about equality...women had a vote through their husbands, and most didn't want the responsibilities that went with voting (the draft). Sounds like they only accepted suffrage when they were promised they wouldn't be drafted, correct? Not equal.

The draft is the big one, but there was other things like jury duty, and firefighting. Looking back at it now, at least in the USA, it was tied to prohibition.
