Let's keep that to "organized" religion, which is in the business of not doing what Christ taught.
I'll even cut organized religion some slack as long as they emphasize the religion over the organization. You can have abusive husbands or abusive parents, but that doesn't make families in general bad. Certainly there are massive religious organizations that have become deeply corrupt, to the point of supporting pedophiles at the expense of their victims. It may be more the exception than the rule, but for anyone who joins an organized effort to gather charity, recruit volunteers to help those in need, and to promote compassion and moral conduct, that's an admirable thing no matter what happens in other religious organizations.
