I've had that shit before when I've had a regular cold. The reason you lose your sense of smell is because your sinuses are clogged up with mucus. Once you feel better its usually back to semi-normal, if not entirely.

I've had that kind of cold, I used to get them all the time at my last employer because of the dirty building.

This was not like that. I was not clogged up, just had that itchy nose you get when you have a mild cold.
