Point blank range means where the sight cross hairs meet at the same visual point with the arc flight path of the round down range. Point blank range can be changed by, but not limited to, grain size round used, gun powder purity/content/amount. Jacket used. Primer, temperature of muzzle and quality of manufacturing in all those aspects. And even humidity & temp of environment not to mention wind. Etc.

Setting point blank range -setting sights to desired range of crosshairs on target point blank. That’s what Scope adjustment if for.

arc flight path of the round down range

INCORRECT !

The bullet path traverses two points in space meeting the sight cross hairs... a FEW FEET from the gun as it arcs upwards on an angle for later decent, and a second point down rage.

If you bothered to read the nice TIL post you would know that point blank of all guns is in two spots... a FEW FEET from the gun, and many yards away from the gun.

NOT solely "down range" as you aserted!

Point blank range always is a few feet from gun AND another point in space, many yards away down range.

Read the article.

Bonus about "toxugens" at the end of the article, if you're interested.

Point blank (which may come from the French phrase pointé à blanc, referring to an arrow being aimed at a white spot at the center of a target) has nothing to do with close proximity to the shooter. Rather, point blank range is the distance at which a weapon aimed at a target succeeds in hitting it — where point of aim (e.g. the middle of the crosshairs) is the same as point of impact.

NOT TRUE TOTALLY, in guns, there are TWO positions where a sight is 100% accurate... one of them is a few feet from the barrel as a bullet arc upward, and the other is a DIFFERENT distance, not the same distance as you assert, and this other distance is down range when the bullet drops enough to make the sight 100% accurate a second time.

Read the article fully.

Yeah its an idiom, not a literal term. As the article itself says its a historical term from where it was easy to hit what was effectively a bullseye. E.g. pretty close range.

This should be, "Today I learned the history of an idiom."

point blank has nothing to do with range

Retard. That's literally the opposite of what the article says.

Yes, I worded that incorrectly, but my point was the phrase is generally used improperly. It has something to do with range, but range is not the defining factor.

Except it's not. Like the word gay it means something different that what it originally meant.

Language changes over time. We may lament that Socialism now means government stealing from the people, but that's not what it meant in the 30s.

You're a faggot, and that argument (just like every other time I've heard it) is the worst argument there is. "Lol, language evolves. Yes, things change, I get that. Now, people say shit like "it be like", "tho", "ain't", "xer", "my bad", "baby daddy"... I could go on for days. That doesn't make it fucking right. It makes us dumber, as a whole. People call cartridges "bullets." They call magazines "clips." Do we just say "fuck it" & let language evolve, or do we correct them of their ignorance?

Edit: In regards to the word "Gay", it still means "happy." The problem isn't with language & semantics in this case, the problem is with faggots. They stole that word from normal people, just like they stole our fucking rainbows.
