not enough people know this and i dont even know if its worth correcting them since there isnt really a better word for it. a shock kind of implies a sudden event that ends quickly with lasting effects, but a word to describe a current continuously traveling through someone just doesnt exist as far as im aware. For example if someone gets stuck on an electrical source without a breaker anyone would say 'he is being electrocuted' even if he doesnt die. 'he is being electric shocked' doesnt convey the same thing at all.
I think its best to accept that the word has evolved past its orginal meaning and means something different to most people who know the word.
