Generally, the left-wing is characterized by an emphasis on "ideas such as freedom, equality, fraternity, rights, progress, reform and internationalism" while the right-wing is characterized by an emphasis on "notions such as authority, hierarchy, order, duty, tradition, reaction and nationalism".[16]

Define "freedom". And then imagine using Wikipedia to establish your understanding of the left/right paradigm.

The left/right language is Biblical. With the right hand being the Godly (alleigance and submission to just authority) and the left hand being the wicked (ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil).

Jeez, I was only talking about etymology. To each their own, I guess. I despise Kikepedia as much as the next guy but it was either that or some MSM crap sites. Interesting info about the God connection, though.

Lol. Gotcha. I thought you were treating it as the origin of the concept itself.

The kikepedia is missing a word, but otherwise correct. Classical liberalism is defined as an attempt to maximize personal freedom. The question is vs what? Everything has a cost and the cost of personal freedom is a smooth functioning society. Disorderly conduct and littering are illegal pretty much everywhere because while maximum personal freedom sounds good in theory, in practice nobody wants it. Liberals are, by definition, an anti-social public nuisance.

The whole thing is, or course, a false dichotomy. Too much order is just as bad as too little. This is why the centrism is always right. Of course National Socialism is a centrist ideology.
