my friends Mom was put in an old folks home at about 75. We would visit her occasionally but she was clearly gone and would always wonder who we were. As we walked through the home, everyone was visibly not quite there and some fully seditated. I think 75 should be the cut off point for all politicians and judges.
I think all forms of dementia aside, the longer elderly can be kept in their homes with family members providing support maintains brain health. I know if my super elderly parent were in a nursing/care home they'd be long dead from the abuse and neglect people suffer in those nursing/care homes.
That's because that's a thing - they put the people there on anti-depressants and sedatives the moment they enter those places regardless of medical need. They also get neglected by shitskins and abusers in said places too. I had a relative in a hospital situation where, if I wasn't there pretty much every waking moment, he would have been abused and neglected as well. I had to step in a couple of times and tell the nurse in question who was being a shifty piece of shit to fuck off, and was watching her movements like a fucking hawk. There was one time where the fuckwit nurse had given medication that clearly wasn't his, and was trying to gaslight him into taking it (which he didn't). Almost ended up in a punchup in fact. Fortunately I've got a lot of medical knowledge, but had I not, they very easily could have killed him. Abusers and the scum of the earth tend to gravitate towards these types of jobs.
