Be careful opening an old half full bottle bleach, maybe do it outside. No l didn't learn this the hard way. I have a gallon jug of bleach in the shed and wondered if it expires or not. Decomposition becomes noticeable around a year after production.

That is worth remembering for survival purposes. If you're planning to use bleach for water sterilization, it has a limited shelf life. One alternative is to stock chlorine tablets which will keep much longer.

You can use pool shock for this purpose, as long as it has no dyes or scents or otherwise bad chemicals in it.
