That's what I use it for the most. I have a cheap Japanese made dashcam in the truck. For some reason the sound doesn't play when I download the videos to my phone. And I get the occasional "corrupted" file. VLC will still play them without issue.

Had a 10 year old HD crash with a bunch of hard to find movies I used a file recovery program and vlc. Still going strong.
