Pride begins by placing yourself as above much inferior beings, and ends with believing you can be greater than God. All sins stem from the belief you are above corruption which God warns all humans of, thanks to the Original Sin. By acknowledging God and sinning, you possibly commited a slip, since you already know the path out of there. Pride severs that door, and that is why its the worst of sins.
