New rollback rates (all are currently 8%):

  • cities 3.5%
  • counties 3.5%
  • hospitals 8%
  • community colleges 8%
  • school districts 2%

Rollback rates are the maximum year-over-year rise in tax levies that a property-taxation authority is allowed to make, without calling an election (the new rate would have to be on a ballot initiative for the people).

The Senate also needs to get its shit together and pass HB297: http://baycitytribune.com/community/article_1a20e090-771f-11e9-b9b0-cf65fb56c568.html to abolish school district M&O tax (which is about 50% of a district's levy), and supplant it with sales tax from the state. This would mean about 20-30% reduction in property taxes.

All good progress. Some relief, and steps toward eliminating property tax entirely.

Remember the Texas legislature meets for 90 days every 2 years, that's it. Get shit done, go home.
