It's unlikely to be a vehicle explosion considering that diesel doesn't explode like that. It burns with black smoke, but hardly explodes.

I'm betting there's another explanation.

Yeah, that is kind of what I was thinking. It could be from a vehicle that runs on propane or natural gas?
