Scientists from the Southern Methodist University looked at 84 days from November 2013 to January 2014, finding 27 magnitude 2 or greater earthquakes hit around Azle that is home to fracking practises.

Matthew Hornbach, a Southern Methodist University geophysicist, said the timing and location of the quakes correlates better to the drilling and injection than any other possible reason.

'There appears to be little doubt about the conclusion that the earthquakes were in fact induced,' USGS seismologist Susan Hough, who wasn't part of the study team, said.

This phenomenon (earthquakes being inadvertently induced) has been known since the 1950s. Ever hear of the Rocky Mountain Arsenal? It was a US Army depot for munitions, and I believe some were actually manufactured there. Principally it was the place where the "Weteye" nerve gas munitions were stored and ultimately decommissioned. In the 1950s and into the 60s, they had really deep wells there where they injected Lord knows what. Coincidentally earthquakes commenced in the region (plains East of Denver then), though no one knew about the injection wells and the correlation wasn't made until well into the 60s. Coincidentally the earthquakes stopped when they stopped injecting crap into the wells.

The area is a wildlife refuge now.

Fuck the government

Pretty much. I don't remember if they ever declassified whatever is was they injected. Probably some bad shit.

Damn, that's some sketchy shit!

I actually looked it up on Wikipedia. I was off a bit on the dates, but here's the gist of it:

Deep injection well

RMA contained a deep injection well that was constructed in 1961. It was drilled to a depth of 12,045 feet (3,671 m). The well was cased and sealed to a depth of 11,975 feet (3,650 m), with the remaining 70 feet (21 m) left as an open hole for the injection of Basin F liquids. For testing purposes, the well was injected with approximately 568,000 US gallons (2150 m³) of city water prior to injecting any waste. The injected fluids had very little potential for reaching the surface or usable groundwater supply since the injection point had 11,900 feet (3,600 m) of rock above it and was sealed at the opening. The Army discontinued use of the well in February 1966 because the fluid injection triggered a series of earthquakes in the area. The well remained unused until 1985 when the Army permanently sealed the disposal well.

So I wonder what "Basin F liquids" were?

It gets better - is a general narrative of what went on at the arsenal. It doesn't state which chemicals went into the well, but does note it was chemical waste.

Holy Moly!! That place was run by literal retards!! How could they think all that shit was a good idea? I love the genius idea to atomize the chemical waste and spray it into the air. A child could have told them that was a shitty idea!!
